May Day and Pentecost 2027 in the Danube Delta at Holbina
In 2027 Orthodox Easter falls on 2 May, so Good Friday (30 April), May Day and the two days of Easter make a 4-day weekend in Romania: Friday 30 April to Monday 3 May. Orthodox Pentecost (Rusalii) is on Sunday and Monday, 20–21 June 2027. The two breaks look different at Holbina: early May is birdwatching season, and by Pentecost the pools are already open.
Public holidays in 2027
Good Friday, May Day and Easter: Friday 30 April to Monday 3 May 2027 (4 days). Children's Day, 1 June 2027, is a Tuesday. Pentecost: Sunday 20 June and Monday 21 June 2027.
These are among the most requested spring dates for a short break in the Delta. Send us your dates and the number of guests early, and the team will confirm availability.
Easter and May Day: birds and quiet
Early May falls in the bird migration season (April–May). Early in the morning, by boat or kayak on the private lake and the channels around the resort, you have the best chance of seeing birds up close. The resort has 25 boats and 10 kayaks; guides are optional and booked separately.
The pools are not yet open on May Day: their season runs from 1 June to 1 September. For Easter meals and dietary preferences, talk to the team before you arrive; the restaurant seats 60.
Pentecost: pools and time on the water
At Pentecost, on 20–21 June, the outdoor pools are open. You can combine pool time with boat trips, kayaking or pedal boats (the resort has 5). Children must be supervised by adults at the pool and during activities.
For families, tell the team your children's ages. Under the conditions published for the fishing packages, children under 7 stay free in their parents' room and children aged 7–12 pay 75% of the stay price; ask for these to be confirmed in your quote.
Fishing during the spring breaks
On the Delta's natural waters, spring is the closed season. The 2027 order has not been published yet; in 2026 the general closure ran from 9 April to 7 June, and for pike from 1 February to 7 June.
On Holbina's private lake you can fish during this period as an overnight guest, catch and release, with artificial lures only and at most 3 anglers per boat. We do not guarantee catches.

Getting there and booking
Boarding is at Pensiunea Califar in Dunavățul de Jos, at the time agreed with reception; the boat ride takes about 45 minutes. You cannot drive directly to the resort.
