Fishing inside Holbina Trei Bibani is permitted only by complying with a well-defined set of rules, created for the safety of anglers, protection of the ecosystem and maintaining the quality of fishing sessions. This is not bureaucracy for its own sake — every rule below exists for a concrete reason our guides have verified over time.
Access to the premises is based on an identity card, and the name must match the one on the voucher issued by the administrator at booking. It is the only "paperwork" you need — unlike fishing on the Delta's public waters, where an ARBDD permit is required, access at Holbina is simple and quick, with no office visits (see fishing rules and permits in the Danube Delta).
Fishing is exclusively with artificial lures, and fishing with live bait is strictly forbidden. Each lure may carry a maximum of one hook, instead of the two or three many come with from the factory — this considerably reduces the risk of injuring the fish during release and shortens the time it spends out of the water.
Pike and catfish must be lifted from the water only with a landing net, never with gaffs or gag grips, and placed on an unhooking mat before any handling. For photos, large fish are held with both hands, never by the gill cover or eye — a pike or catfish held the wrong way can suffer internal injuries that lower its odds of surviving release, even if it looks fine in the picture.
We practise catch and release for most catches, especially large specimens: a lake stripped of every trophy pike has nothing left to offer the next angler. A sensible number of medium-sized fish can be kept for the table, with the guide's agreement. Litter must not be thrown into the water, and swimming in the lakes is strictly forbidden, both for your safety and for the fish's peace.
The guide who joins you on the boat applies these rules naturally, as part of the session rather than a list read out at the start — most of the time you won't even notice how much they matter until you see the difference from an overfished pond. By following them, every fishing session becomes a true story, in harmony with the wild nature of the Danube Delta, and the lakes stay full of big fish year after year.
